I still remember when I first got connected with the Bakersfield Angels back in 2020. At the time, I didn’t fully understand how much it would change the way I see our community.

What started as a simple “yes” to getting involved turned into something so much bigger.

Over the years, I’ve had a front-row seat to the quiet, powerful ways love shows up. I’ve seen kids who have walked through incredibly hard circumstances light up over something as simple as being remembered on their birthday. I’ve watched caregivers—who give so much of themselves—feel seen, supported, and encouraged when they realize they’re not doing this alone. And I’ve witnessed what happens when a community decides to step in instead of stand by.

It’s not always big, grand gestures. Most of the time, it’s the small, consistent acts of kindness that make the biggest difference—meals dropped off, school supplies delivered, a check-in text, showing up again and again. 

And that’s why something like Give Big Kern matters so much.

Because it’s not about one big donation—it’s about all of us doing a little. It’s about skipping a coffee one day, packing your lunch instead of eating out, or giving what you can, knowing it all adds up. When a community comes together in small, intentional ways, it turns into something powerful.

What I’ve learned is this: these kids don’t need perfection—they need people. They need steady, caring adults who remind them that they matter, that they’re not forgotten, and that their story isn’t over.

Supporting the foster care community isn’t just “nice to do”—it’s something we all have a role in. And during Give Big Kern, it’s such a simple, tangible way to be part of that.

Because when we show up for these kids, we’re not just changing their lives—we’re strengthening our entire community.
