Friends,
We have been involved with the Center since its inception in the fall of 2011. Being part of the Center's leadership and team of volunteers is one of the most rewarding and valued experiences of both our lives. In addition to the mental health programs offered to the public – with more than 7,000 no-cost sessions to date - our downtown Center (in the vibrant Eastchester Arts & Culture District) offers a safe, welcoming space to gather and build community. We continue to hear from visitors how important that is. Since 2011, more than 15,000 visitors have enjoyed the downtown Center. Keeping our facilities open does depend on the generosity and support of our donors. Our continued presence is important not only in the lives of those who are coming to our Center but also for the visibility and awareness we create in and around Bakersfield. Over 2,000 people from the wider Kern County area have received education intended to increase acceptance and understanding of 2SLGBTQIA+ persons through our Cultural Competency Trainings. We invite you to join us in assuring that this space and mission continue with expanded programming by making your donation today – we are making a difference!
Just 6 months ago, The Center for Sexuality & Gender Diversity made the move into a long-term lease of a new facility at 707 & 709 18th St. – only two blocks east from the previous community center location. The new location features a 3,960 sq ft building, with a covered 900 sq ft outdoor patio and a secure 1,900 sq ft parking area available for hosting outdoor community events. Both “The Center” and “The Annex” locations moved into the new facility with room left over for future growth. By combining all services and staff under one roof, we have been able to offer expanded open hours. Also, those attending our counseling services can integrate into programs and our community space as they feel comfortable. We continue our dedication to making sure that our safe space for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Bakersfield and Kern County thrives as we expand our vision and grow our programming, services, and advocacy in this new chapter.
Please Donate NOW so The Center can continue to have a positive impact on thousands of lives.
Thank you for your support!
