Our daughter moved to Frazier Park with her husband and 3-year old daughter in 2013, which is when we first discovered this charming mountain town. While looking for local resources to support the development of their daughter, she made contact with the Mountain Communities Family Resource Center. From those initial experiences on behalf of her daughter, she saw the value of the Family Resource Center to the Mountain Communities. Several months later she became an employee of the Family Resource Center. Eventually she became the chairperson of the board and then the executive director of the Family Resource Center. Our daughter’s passion for helping people in the Mountain Communities and for the work of the Family Resource Center has stimulated our desire to reach out to the people in these communities, even though we live over 100 miles away from them. In fact, in 2019, one of us (Steve) decided to volunteer his time and joined the Board of Directors to help ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability. Through that volunteering, we’ve been able to see even more closely how the staff uplifts children, parents, veterans, and seniors during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. During the COVID pandemic, the Family Resource Center was on the front lines to provide food, cash assistance for utilities and rent, and other resources. Although there are always people in need, the pandemic has increased the number of people who need help.
