Kern Dance Alliance (KDA) is a nonprofit dance advocacy organization supporting and promoting dance + the arts in Kern County, California.

The goal of KDA is to move our community.

KDA provides four pillars of resources:

1. DANCE COMMUNITY ALLIANCE circulates information about events, news, and advocacy.

2. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT for TEACHERS provides educators with critical tools to provide a quality dance education.

3. DANCE PROGRAMS allows Kern County to attend professional programs, performances, and master classes.

4. SCHOLARSHIPS/GRANTS are provided to dancers and dance organizations.

KDA hosts various programs that use dance to make an impact in our community:

SHINE for GIRLS: DANCE + MATH = SUCCESS combines dance with math to improve girls’ math scores and spark interest in STEM.

ADAPTIdance : DANCE + DISABILITY offers dance classes for people with disabilities.

BOOKS IN MOTION: DANCE + LITERACY links dance and literacy to inspire children to read.

NATIONAL DANCE DAY provides a celebratory day of various dance classes for the community to enjoy.

NATIONAL HONORS SOCIETY FOR DANCE ARTS recognizes artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance.

CHILDREN'S DANCE EDUCATION + OUTREACH PROGRAM provides socio and economically disadvantaged children with an afternoon of dance at the Bakersfield Fox Theater.

KDA THERAPEUTIC DANCE PROGRAMS:

MemoryMOVES: DANCE + THERAPY offers dance therapy sessions for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients.

HealingMOTION: DANCE + THERAPY provides dance therapy sessions for Cancer patients.

MovingYOUTH: DANCE + THERAPY produces dance therapy session for high school foster youth.

KDA provides individuals and organizations the opportunity to participate in and support dance in Kern County. As a KDA donor, you can be proud of your partnership and role in supporting arts and culture within our community.

KDA has partnered with many organizations, including the Alzheimer’s Disease Association of Kern County (ADAKC), Bakersfield Museum of Art (BMoA), Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce/Bakersfield Young Professionals, Boys and Girls Club of Kern County, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Bakersfield Homeless Center, Garden Pathways, Garces Memorial High School, Ford Dimension Dream Builders Program, League of Dreams, Fox Theater Foundation, Kern County Library, Kern Literacy Council, Barnes and Noble Bakersfield, and Kern dance organizations.   

KDA is made possible by support from Chevron, Junior League of Bakersfield, Arts Council of Kern, Women’s and Girls’ Fund of Kern County, Kern Community Foundation, Dignity Health, Robert Grimm Family Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, Bakersfield Californian Foundation, Virginia and Alfred Harrell Foundation, Cynthia Lake Charitable Trust, Grimmway Farms, Chain Cohen Stiles, CARE, Wall Street Imprintables, Terra-Gen, Western Graphics, Homewood Suites, Stria, Padre Hotel, and private donations. 

 
While KDA focuses on providing dance related opportunities, the bigger picture showcases a community with multiple arts and culture offerings to incite passion, creativity, empowerment, and innovation. KDA impacts Kern County by developing unique programs that utilize dance to encourage learning, healthy living, understanding, and tolerance. By using “out of the box thinking”, KDA has successfully used dance to teach math and literacy, improve life with dementia, aid with disabilities, and inspire impoverished communities.
