Rising Star Riders

Rising Star Riders, formerly Kellys Therapeutic Riders, began at the request of a parent in 2006 who was seeking services for her daughter.  The parent realized the positive impact on muscle development and social interaction for her daughter. After 2 brain surgeries she was back on the horse within 2 months and continued to thrive in the program. Her mom shares some of her story: 

"My daughter, Mary Kate, who has Autism, global developmental delay and Ataxic gait rode with Rising Star Riders for 9 years. When she started the program she had difficulty walking due to other muscular problems. I was a skeptic at first and have had the pleasure of watching my daughter exceeded every expectation and then some. 

This program helped her flourish socially, build muscle and strength and gave her a safe place to be herself; she not only walks but runs now.  For many of us it is a place to be with those who have the same struggles both as student and parent. The money from this grant would allow this special program to grow, meeting the needs of those who need it most."

We continue to offer this program because of the community need for resources and we always appreciate the support.

Who We Are

Rising Star Riders (formerly Kellys Therapeutic Riders) is dedicated to serving the needs of children and adults who have physical or emotional challenges. We provide horseback riding and unmounted exercises with horses that benefits the participants overall well-being. The participants groom, ride and learn to care for horses. Games are utilized during instruction to improve balance and coordination. All of our instructors are experienced and carefully trained; in addition, our PATH International–certified instructors complete ongoing continuing education to keep their certification current. RSR is a volunteer organization and depends on the generosity of donors and volunteers to care for our horses and serve our population.
