Fuel a Future

Imagine turning 18 and instead of receiving gifts, celebration, or support, you’re handed a large trash bag filled with your belongings and told it’s time to leave. No family to call. No home to go to. No safety net.
The very system that removed you from your family for your protection now releases you into adulthood alone, unprepared, and unseen.
What would you do?
What would you do if no one had taught you how to navigate life?
What would you do if the resources, relationships, and training you needed simply weren’t there?
This is the reality for thousands of foster youth in California every year.
Why Covenant Exists
Covenant was created to stand in that gap — to restore the lives of former foster youth who “age out” of the system at 18–21.
Think back to your own life at 18 or even 21.
Were you ready to be fully on your own?
Would you have made it without support, guidance, or a place to land?
Most foster youth don’t. And the statistics prove it.
Covenant began as a volunteer effort serving foster children in Kern County through Royal Family Kids Camp. Spending a week with children ages 6–12 in the beauty of the outdoors opened our eyes to a deeper truth: if we wanted to break the cycle of abuse, neglect, and generational trauma, we had to go upstream. We had to restore the lives of former foster youth so the next generation would never enter the system.
Who We Serve
Covenant serves young adults who have no options and no alternatives. These youth were removed from their biological families for safety — and then exited state care with no support.
We provide hope, stability, and opportunity for former foster youth ages 18–24 through a continuum of programs designed to meet real needs with real solutions.
Our Programs
Covenant Coffee
We train, mentor, and employ former foster youth — giving them work instead of welfare, skills instead of handouts, and dignity instead of despair.
As Danny from Covenant Coffee says:
“You can spend your money helping some rich man buy his next beach house, or you can buy Covenant Coffee and help a former foster youth get their first home or a safe place to live.”
Covenant CHOICES THP+
Serving 58 former foster youth annually, CHOICES provides:
We help youth launch stable, successful adult lives.
Covenant Building Blocks
A residential program for 18–21-year-olds, located in a 12‑unit apartment complex on Belle Terrace.
We provide the same level of support as CHOICES, but tailored to younger youth who need structure, safety, and consistent care.
Covenant Mentoring
We match compassionate adults with former foster youth to help them Be, Do, and Have more.
Positive relationships change lives — and for many youth, this is the first time they’ve had someone in their corner.
Why This Work Matters
The statistics are heartbreaking — and they are preventable:
These outcomes are not failures of the youth — they are failures of the system.
Covenant exists to change these outcomes.
Together, We Restore Lives and Transform Generations
Our work is only possible because of strong community partners — the Department of Human Services, the faith community, local businesses, and individuals who believe in the potential of every young person.
When we invest in former foster youth, we don’t just change one life.
We change families.
We change futures.
We change generations.
