One caregiver best describes the benefits of the organization.
" My father being involved in the ADAKC’s Adult Day Center is the best thing ever to happen to him, for the quality of his life and our family’s has improved. For the last six years, the staff at ADAKC has treated my father like family. When I leave him at the center, I am confident that he is well taken care of and loved by the staff at ADAKC. The best thing about ADAKC is that as my father’s Alzheimer’s progresses the staff teaches me how to adapt to these changes. They guide me through the various stages and are always there to offer encouragement, support, and understanding. It’s incredible to see how our whole family near and far reap the positive benefits of this amazing organization. Thank You, Jody Serban"
Support the Heart of Kern County’s Dementia Care
For over 40 years, the Alzheimer’s Disease Association of Kern County, Inc. (ADAKC) has been a lifeline for individuals and families navigating the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1982, ADAKC is the only local organization in Kern County offering a full-time Adult Day Program dedicated solely to the care and enrichment of those living with memory loss.
Our person-centered approach ensures each client is treated with dignity, inclusion, and respect. Every day, our trained staff lead brain-stimulating activities in a safe, engaging environment that promotes social connection, independence, and joy.
But our work goes beyond our clients—we’re here for their caregivers, too. Caring for a loved one with dementia is a 24/7 responsibility, and we walk alongside families every step of the way. Our support includes:
Every week, our Family Services team hosts free support groups at the Rose Lazzerini Campus—open to all, regardless of program enrollment. This space provides a vital sense of community and understanding for caregivers navigating the emotional and physical toll of dementia care.
Because ADAKC follows a social model of care, our services are not covered by insurance. That means we rely on generous donations, community fundraising, and grants to keep our doors open—and to make sure that every family, regardless of income, can access the support they need.
The Need Is Growing
Today, more than 12,000 people in Kern County are living with dementia—and many more are undiagnosed. National projections show that dementia rates will double by 2060. The need for compassionate, local care has never been greater.
Your Support Stays Local
Every dollar you give to ADAKC stays right here in Kern County. It helps provide quality care for our clients, resources for families in crisis, and moments of connection that bring light to those walking through the darkness of memory loss.
