Team Juanatas-Bowens is more than a weightlifting club. We are a family-centered nonprofit using strength sports to build confidence, discipline, health, leadership, and hope in Kern County.

What started with the Bowens family sharing their love for weightlifting has grown into a community movement. Team Juanatas-Bowens was created because there was a clear need in Kern County: young people, families, adaptive athletes, and community members needed access to quality coaching, safe training, positive mentorship, and real opportunities to compete without having to travel to Los Angeles, the Bay Area, or beyond.

TJB removes barriers. We do not wait for opportunity to come to our athletes — we bring opportunity to them.

We provide coaching, equipment, competitions, mentorship, and family-centered support so youth and adults can experience the life-changing power of strength sports. Whether an athlete is stepping onto the platform for the first time, qualifying for a national meet, building confidence after a difficult season in life, or simply learning that they are stronger than they thought, TJB is there.

Our mission is simple: use strength sports to change lives.

Through weightlifting, powerlifting, pickleball, and wellness programming, Team Juanatas-Bowens gives athletes a place to belong, a reason to stay focused, and a pathway to grow. We teach discipline. We teach accountability. We teach proper nutrition, goal setting, mental toughness, and family unity. Most importantly, we teach our athletes that their story is not finished and that their future is worth fighting for.

For some athletes, TJB is their first team.
For some, it is their first national opportunity.
For some, it is the first time an adult has consistently believed in them.
For some, it is a safe place to rebuild confidence, stay drug-free, and make healthier choices.
For many families, it becomes a community.

Team Juanatas-Bowens believes every athlete deserves a high-quality experience, regardless of their financial situation. That is why our coaches, volunteers, and families work so hard to provide equipment, training, competition access, photography, travel support, and memorable experiences for athletes who may not otherwise have these opportunities.
