Golden Empire Gleaners

Golden Empire Gleaners is a nonprofit food bank that has served Kern County for over 41 years.

Our mission is simple: to help alleviate hunger by collecting and distributing food that might otherwise go to waste.

Today, we provide food to more than 15,000 individuals each month, including children, low-income seniors, families in crisis, and those who are ill, disabled, homeless, or unemployed. We partner with over 100 agencies—schools, senior centers, churches and nonprofits to ensure food reaches those who need it most.

We receive no government funding. All operating costs are covered through the generosity of individuals, businesses, foundations, and community support. Every pound of food we distribute is donated by growers, packers, food processors, grocers, and local food drives.

With just four paid staff members and the support of hundreds of dedicated volunteers—filling more than 100 shifts each week—we are able to operate efficiently and effectively. As a debt-free 501(c)(3) organization, we own our property and equipment, ensuring that donations directly support feeding those in need, not servicing debt.
