Carlos Marquez Forever 34 Foundation is a nonprofit here in Bakersfield, California with a Mission to Save Lives by Raising Awareness about Fentanyl ,Educating youth, parents, schools and the community of the dangers of fentanyl and of the crisis we have in our community.

I started the foundation after losing my 34 year old son Carlos to fentanyl poisoning on March 03,2025. Carlos took a substance that was unknowingly laced with fentanyl. 

Carlos was one of a kind son. Carlos had goals and dreams like we all do. Carlos loved basketball, dancing, joking and loved life. Carlos had struggles in life like most of us do, but did not deserve to lose his life at just 34 years of age.  I know if fentanyl was not in our community Carlos would still be alive. 

That is why I have made it my mission to turn My Pain Into Purpose to Save Lives by Raising Awareness, Educating our youth, parents, and community about the dangers of fentanyl and opioids.

Fentanyl has become the number one leading cause of death for Americans ages 18-45 years old. Every five minutes someone is dying.   Many people, especially youth and parents do not realize how common fentanyl laced substances are or how little it takes to be deadly. The fentanyl crisis is affecting families from every walk of life. 

Since 2019 to 2025 there has been 1,241 lives lost to fentanyl-related poisoning and accidental overdose deaths here in Kern County.
