In 2025, the Independent Living Center received over 1,000 inquiries from community members seeking services.
Thanks to funding secured through GiveBigKern 2025 and a grant from the Friends of Mercy Foundation Sister Phyllis Hughes/Sister Judy Morasci Endowment, our Assistive Technology Repair and ReUse Program expanded its reach from serving 28 individuals in 2024 to 77 in 2025. This growth enabled individuals without alternative means to acquire essential equipment such as wheelchairs, rollators, and power scooters, thereby enhancing their independence.
Our American Sign Language program provides certified ASL interpreters to businesses, agencies, and organizations. In 2024, we facilitated an average of 550 hours per month of ASL interpreting services, which increased to 750 hours per month in 2025.
